Homestead Valley Gravel Pit
Jurisdiction: King County & Department of Natural Resources (DNR)
Client: Fiorito Brothers Inc
Description: The Homestead Valley Gravel Pit has been in operation for the better part of 30 years and American Engineering Corporation was hired to complete the reclamation and close out of the pit. Located in North Bend around mile post 39 on I-90 the over steepened slopes were required to be stabilized and re-vegetated. American Engineering Corporation prepared a reclamation plan which involved using on site materials, enhanced drainage features, and intense seeding and re-vegetation to stabilize the final slopes. After moving nearly 180,000 cubic yards over 12 acres and using final slopes of 1.5 horizontal to 1 vertical in some locations, all slopes have remained vegetated and stable.

Enumclaw Sand and Gravel
Jurisdiction: King County & Department of Natural Resources (DNR)
Client: Corliss Resources Incorporated
Description: American Engineering Corporation provided civil engineering and permitting services for this project. Using our extensive knowledge of gravel and surface mines, the reclamation plan and design over this 314 acres site, allowed a large pit expansion. Traversing multiple jurisdictions for approvals such as DNR and King County, the pit expansion was approved in 2008. Conducting studies such as hydrology, hydro-geological, geotechnical investigations, noise, traffic, and wetlands, allowed for a smooth permitting process. Other cutting edge studies such as geophysical methods to map the bedrock surface to facilitate quantifying the available sand and gravel resources and laboratory evaluation, all allowed this project to be successful and cost effective for the owner.
